Charlene Walling – Paintings, Gourds
Town of Norwich
Art is a way of life for me, whether I am creating it, teaching it, or absorbing it onto my daily life. Art is everywhere! Designs by nature intrigue me the most, as does the cycle of life which is evident in every facet of our lives. I want to capture the essence of our lives in various painting media, and incorporate my emotions into each piece.
I was born in Nyack NY, which is near New York City, and at the age of five, my parents and I relocated to Nineveh, New York. I attended the Harpursville Central School system, and graduated from the State University at New Paltz, with a degree in K-12 art education. During the 28 years that I taught art in the Mt. Upton, South New Berlin, and then merged Unadilla Valley school system, I took advanced training classes with professors at SUNY Oneonta, potter Elizabeth Nields, and short refreshers with various advanced artists.
Upon my retirement from the public schools, while enjoying my Norwich home, my husband, Troy, our son, Tyler, and our dog, Maya, I began to re-examine my personal commitment to art. I have re-established my quest for artistic growth. After dabbling with many areas in the art arena, I have settled on painting: oils, acrylics, watercolors, silk dyes and paints, pastels. The blending, vibrancy, subtlety and / or contrast that can be achieved with each media offers me tremendous variety, while still using a painting technique.
As you view my work, it is my hope that you will find something that stirs your emotions and creates a bond with some facet of your life.
I joined MIC in the summer of 1997, quit for a few years and rejoined in 2003.
