Lynne (Otter) Berry – potter,
Cazenovia NY
I studied pottery at Oswego State University and Clayscapes Pottery Studio of Syracuse. I’m interested in clay because it’s dirty, functional and magic! You can take a lump of sloppy clay and turn it into something beautiful, functional and so durable it can last for hundreds or even thousands of years.
I like to work in two main styles. I find it satisfying to use the potters wheel to create “classic” functional forms that exhibit complex glazes well. It’s even more exciting to me to use soft and hard slab techniques to create unique hand built pieces.
I frequently use hand carved stamps to provide interesting surface textures and to add “iconic” design elements to my work.
I am employed part time in the pharmaceutical industry which provides me with time to enjoy creating in clay.
