Sharon MacArthur – Potter
Town of Guilford
Playing in clay might have started when I was a child, and maybe I’ll still be playing in clay when I grow even older. I love the texture of clay, and am always trying something new with it. Either hand-building or throwing on the wheel, I am always soothed with the forms I create. Pushing the material as far as I can to be either functional and/or decorative.
I was an Art Teacher for 27 years where I taught painting and drawing, photography, computer graphics, sculpture, and ceramics. I went to college at State University @ New Paltz, and graduated with a degree in Art Education. When I retired from Afton Central School, I had the time to play again with clay. I had studied at Elizabeth Nields studio many a summer, and concentrated on Native American pottery when studying with Roger Perkins, a Mohawk Native American. I have fired in gas kilns, electric kilns, garbage cans, and in a pit in the ground. Experimenting with clays and glazes makes life interesting at my Guilford studio.
I am pleased that my work is appreciated at Made In Chenango and proud to be a member of this fine store. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do making it.
Sharon joined MIC in 2003.
