Virginia Lee and Storm Hammond were surrounded by women who worked with their hands using threads and fibers. One of Virginia’s grandmothers hooked rugs of her own design; the other was a painter and her mother does knitting and needlepoint. Storm’s maternal grandmother was a fabulous seamstress fabricating everything of cloth and her mother is a fiber artist and doll maker. They have always been drawn to handwork and find it can be a meditation in motion.

Twelve years ago, Virginia took a sabatical from elementary teaching and discovered expressive arts such as clay, paints, movement and sound and fell in love with the artistic process. Her retirement allows her to continue developing artistically. Storm’s interest in art began at an early age when her mom taught her to sew pictures out of scraps. When she was thinking about college she decided on art school. Since then, she has studied all forms of fine and graphic art expressions. The depths of the creative process and its techniques have always fascinated her. Virginia took Storm’s dollmaking workshop at “Sew Nice” in Norwich and their collaboration “Stormzdoleez” was born.
